Frequently Asked Questions
-
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions can vary significantly based on your individual circumstances and goals. We will regularly evaluate your progress and adjust our approach as needed to help you get the most out of each session. If you prefer, we also offer single-session appointments for addressing specific concerns.
-
Can I contact you outside of sessions?
Between-session contact is limited to discussion of scheduling concerns that are not able to be addressed through online booking. We are unable to provide crisis support; if you need immediate support, please call the Distress Centre at (403) 266-4357, the Canada Suicide Crisis Helpline at 9-8-8, or present at your nearest hospital or Urgent Care.
-
Will you follow up with me if I don't rebook?
You have control over how and when you schedule your sessions. If you decide not to schedule a follow-up, or to cancel without rescheduling, your therapist will not reach out to you. If a year has passed since your last appointment, your file will be closed. You are absolutely welcome to return to services at any time—just be prepared to complete updated paperwork to ensure we have your most current information.
-
Can you make a diagnosis or prescribe me medication?
While we are trained to recognize the symptoms of and to treat many mental health disorders through a variety of therapeutic modalities, we are not able to provide a diagnosis. We are happy to discuss whether pursuing a diagnosis is right for you and to help connect you with the right professionals to do so. We cannot prescribe medication; only a psychiatrist or your medical doctor can do so.
-
Will my insurance cover sessions?
Most extended health insurance plans in Alberta provide coverage for sessions with Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCC). We offer direct billing to select insurance providers through Telus e-claims (including Canada Life, Manulife, and more), making it easier for you to focus on your well-being without the hassle of reimbursement paperwork. We are currently working to expand our direct billing to include more providers. As individual plans do vary, it is always best practice for you to check with your provider directly regarding coverage.
-
I don't live in Alberta. Can I still receive counselling services?
Yes! As Canadian Certified Counsellors regulated by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, we are able to practice inter-provincially. It’s a good idea to check with your insurance provider to see if they will cover out-of-province healthcare.
